Dear Parents and Carers

We hope your children have settled easily into their new Year 6 classes. Please find below details of various aspects of the learning and organisation of
Year 6.

P.E. and Games
Your child will need their P.E. kit in school every day of the week. PE kits can be taken home to wash at weekends or half-term. Your child will usually have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Just a quick reminder that children must have shorts and t-shirt, plimsolls or trainers for P.E. lessons. If the weather is cold, they will be allowed to wear tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts for outside games. The wearing of stud earrings will be permitted, but, as stated in the school and LA policies, these should be removed for PE and Games. Children with newly pierced ears must bring in tape to cover their earrings. Please note that teachers and other members of staff are not permitted to remove a child’s earrings; therefore, children must be able to remove and replace them on their own or bring a suitable micro-porous tape to cover them.

School Uniform
You are reminded that the regulations about school uniform are clearly stated on the school website. All children should be wearing white polo-shirt, shirt or blouse; navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan (preferably with school logo); black or grey trousers, shorts or skirts and black shoes (not black trainers). To avoid potential loss of clothing, please ensure all garments are clearly labelled with your child’s name

Homework
A copy of all homework can be found on the school website. It is the child’s responsibility to ensure that they have a up-to-date copy of the homework tasks.
Spelling: These will normally be set every Tuesday and tested on the following Monday. Your child will have a task to complete on these spellings which should be recorded in their homework books.
Maths: This will be set every Wednesday to be returned every Monday and will support topics covered during maths lessons. Your child will be given an orange maths book to complete their homework in.

Topic: At the beginning of each term your child will receive a spider diagram of optional homework tasks. Additional guidance can be found in your child’s homework book or on the school website

Home Reading
As part of our whole school approach to reading, children will have the opportunity to choose a library book to take home. Children are encouraged to read every evening. Please encourage and support your child with their reading.

SATs Week
SATs for all Year 6 children will take place during the week beginning 14th – 17th May. It is important that no holidays or medical appointments are booked during this week. If any tests are missed, they cannot be rescheduled.

Trips & Activities
In Year 6 there are a few activities that we would ask for a voluntary contribution towards. Please be aware that prices are approximate. At the request of parents, we have tried to detail these in advance for the year as follows:

 Design Technology activities for year - £3.50 – Autumn Term

 Mary Rose Activity Day- Local History Study- £9.00- June

Please note that due to changes to the curriculum, additional trips may be arranged during the course of the year.
