What time does school start?

The normal school day is from 08:40 to 15:00.

Children should be in school ready to go to their classrooms at 08:40.

Unless they are attending breakfast club, children should not be on the school site before 08:30.

What time is the school office open ?

The office telephones are staffed from 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday. After these times the phones are switched over to our answer machine where you can leave a message.

Reception is open between 08:30 and 15:30 on school days.

Although we check our emails, answer phone and text messages regularly, it is not advisable to leave messages that require immediate attention, e.g. if you are going to be late collecting your child.

What do I need to do if my child needs time off school?

Fill in an AFCOS form which is available from the school office.

What do I need to do if my child is ill?

Contact the school by telephone (92 734787) and leave a message on the answerphone giving the reason for absence.
Alternatively send a written note to the school office, again giving the reason for absence.

How much are school dinners and can I claim for free school meals?

School meals cost £2.05 per day. School meals must be paid for on the Monday of the week during which the meal is required.

Can my child bring a snack to school?

Children are encouraged to bring a snack to eat at break time.  Craneswater Junior School is officially recognised as a healthy school and only healthy snacks are permitted.

Can my child bring a drink to school?

Water is available for children in all classrooms. Each child is given a water bottle at the start of the year. If this is lost or becomes unusable, children should bring in a transparent water bottle for use in school.

Flavoured drinks may only be drunk with packed lunches and may not be drunk during lessons.

What time are class assemblies?

Class assemblies to which parents and friends are invited take place on most Fridays during term time.

Assemblies start at 14:30 and visitors are asked to be in school ready to sit down by 14:25.

Can I leave medicine at school for my child?

School staff can administer medicines which need to be taken orally. The medicine should be left with the school office, together with written instructions.

Does my child have to wear school uniform?

Yes. All children are expected to wear school uniform and the school prospectus includes details of school uniform.
Details of the uniform and a current price list of items which carry the school logo can be found under the School Uniform Header in the Virtual Office.  Coats, sweatshirts, T-shirts and bags with the school logo may be obtained from the office during office hours.
