Ethos and Values

Our vision for Craneswater Junior is to be a school that develops all our pupils as confident, well-rounded, caring young people who learn effectively and contribute to their communities and wider society.  We strive to do this through the provision of excellent teaching in a caring and supportive environment that gives every child the opportunity to achieve their academic, personal and social potential.

'Learn to think, think to learn' describes the way in which we want to develop children as independent learners with skills that will carry them through the rest of their education and beyond.  We have five core school values: respect, responsibility, honesty, resilience and self worth.

In order to celebrate and promote the School’s values and code of conduct, we have 4 house teams. These are Dauntless, Daring, Diamond and Dragon. They are named after the Type 45 destroyer which is based at Portsmouth Harbour. Children are assigned a house and throughout the year they compete for house points in order to win the House Cup. House points are awarded for exemplary behaviour both in class and around the school, sporting achievements and participation in after-school clubs and activities. House points can be awarded by any member of staff who feels that a child has demonstrated these values. A running total is regularly announced during assembly and the scores are displayed on the house board in the hall.
